Heritage Action Signs Letter Calling For Fiscally Responsible Infrastructure Package
In light of President Trump’s plan to invest $1 trillion towards America’s infrastructure, Heritage Action has signed on to a coalition letter outlining principles to guide both Congress and the Trump Administration as they put together an infrastructure package.
In order to avoid repeating the mistake of failed stimulus plans propped up by tax increases, any infrastructure spending package must center on reforms that provide relief from federal regulations and bureaucracy while stretching the taxpayer dollar as far as it can go.
Congress and the administration can address the country’s infrastructure needs but do so in a fiscally responsible manner. Rolling back labor regulations and streamlining environmental impact studies can reduce paperwork hours and control costs. Instead of relying on budget gimmicks, tax increases, or creating a national infrastructure bank for financing Congress should instead work to offset new spending with cuts.
